Week 12 of Reading Through the Bible in 90 Days

This week we will be finishing up the gospels and reading through some of the epistles of the New Testament.  I am really enjoying reading through the New Testament again.  I always find some new truth that God is speaking to me when I read through the New Testament.

By the end of this week we will be on day 82 of reading through the Bible.  I had two days this week that I was behind and had to read two days at a time.  It can be difficult to catch up.  Kathryne, my 12 year old who is reading through for the second time with me, habitually gets a few days behind and then catches up.  She does have much more free time for reading than I do, but it is an encouragement to me to see her work hard to catch up and stay on track.

If you are still reading along with us, please leave me a comment.  Let me know if I can pray for you also.

Bible in 90 Days: The Gospels

I love reading through the gospels.  It's very refreshing to read about the life of Christ following the gloom and doom of the prophets we just read.  I'm not sure that any one gospel is my favorite.  I love to look at a synopsis of the gospels when I read because I'm a very visual person, and because I like charts.  Here is a very nice one I found complete with a cool chart and comparisons of all the gospels:

I also love the gospels because every time I read them, I am struck afresh by something.  And, sometimes I'm drawn again to some of my favorite passages.  One of my favorite passages was from yesterday's reading.

In Luke 7 we find John the Baptist in prison.  John, the forerunner of Christ, who has spent most of life in the desert preaching and teaching people about the Christ to come, is having some doubts.  He sends some of his followers to ask Jesus if He really is the Messiah.  At this point, I could picture Jesus getting angry.  How dare John doubt Him!  John's very birth was miraculous and amazing; and John's whole purpose was to prepare the way of the Lord.  But, Jesus isn't angry or harsh.  Instead he sends John's followers away with words of comfort for John and then spends the rest of the chapter talking to the people around Him about John's special ministry.  I'm so thankful that Christ understands our weakness and reassures us when we doubt instead of blasting us!

I'm glad to be reading through the gospels this week!

Week 11 of Reading Through the Bible in 90 Days

This week we will be reading through the Gospels.  This seems to be so much easier reading for me than trudging through the prophets.  Finally the prophecies are being fulfilled, and the Messiah has come!

If you are on track with your reading, you only have 18 more days before you have finished the entire Bible.  I pray that God is blessing you as your read.  Please take time to check in and let me know if you are still reading.

Week 10 of Reading Through the Bible in 90 Days

This is our 10th week of reading through the Bible in 90 days.  This week we will finish up the minor prophets and head into the New Testament.  I must say, I always find the New Testament easier to read.

Another reason I so love reading the Bible this way is because we head into the New Testament so quickly after slogging through the prophets.  Now, the long awaited Messiah who has been alluded to many times in the prophetic books comes on the scene.  Having just read many of those prophetic references, we can see so clearly that Jesus is the promised Messiah.

We are well over halfway through now.  Please comment to let me know you're still reading, and let me know if I can pray for you this week.  May God continue to bless our reading together.

Week 9 of Reading Through the Bible in 90 Days

I must confess that I was behind two different days this week.  That meant I had double reading two days.  Getting behind is not a good idea.  I know at this point some people are so far behind that they decide to quit.  I hope you will continue reading even if you find yourself behind.  Even if you are not able to finish reading in 90 days, it is good to finish reading through the Bible.

This week we will be reading from Lamentations into Daniel.  It is good to remember that the prophets took place during the same time period as 1 and 2 Samuel, Kings and Chronicles.  The prophets continually prophesied to God's people before and during their time of captivity.  God's people chose not to repent and turn from there evil ways, and this eventually led to their captivity.

Please check in and let me know you're still reading.  And let me know if I can pray for you this week.
